Name:Arthur Weasley
Website:Operation Redo
Location:Ottery St Catchpole, Devon, United Kingdom
Bio:
I'm in Gryffindor!

Name: Arthur Septimus Weasley
Birthday: 6 February, 1948
House: Gryffindor (1959-1966)
Kind of blood: Pureblood
Pet: a vivacious young owl called Errol
Wand: mahogany and phoenix feather, 11 1/2 inches, quite springy

Physical Appearance: Arthur is tall (6'1") and weighs 12 stone (168 pounds), with thinning red hair that tends to bleach out to strawberry blond in the summer and honey-brown eyes. He used to be very thin, but lately he's started to get a little thicker about the middle, thanks to Molly's wonderful cooking. He has a pale complexion that freckles rather than tans, though he always has freckles on the bridge of his nose, even in the dead of winter. Arthur is also beginning to suspect he needs spectacles, but with two young rambunctious boys and a third child on the way (hopefully a girl), he hasn't quite managed to get to St Mungo's for an exam.

Biography: The oldest of three brothers, Arthur Ignatius Weasley was born to Reginald Ignatius Weasley and Gabrielle Black Weasley in Coventry, Warwickshire. His parents are prominent members of wizarding society. Gabrielle is part of the Black family of London (Sirius' mother's second cousin). Reginald oversees the family business -- Weasleys' Watches, makers of fine wizarding timepieces since 1389 -- and owns several factories in Coventry and distribution centres around Britain and the world. The most popular brand of clocks and watches in the wizarding world is easily recognised by the intertwining W's engraved onto the hands.

Arthur's parents met whilst they attended Hogwarts and were married in April of 1947. Arthur was born the following February, and his brothers -- Thomas Aloisius Weasley and Phillip Bilius Weasley -- came into the world in March of 1949 and September of 1950. Though his parents did their best to spoil him and his brothers, Arthur never really felt that he fit in at home. Much too easy-going to care about learning all the social graces required for proper hob-nobbing, Arthur annoyed his governess to no end. When he was supposed to be practising his French or other dreadfully dull subjects, he preferred to take apart rejected watches and clocks from his father's factories, just to see how they worked. When he was seven, Arthur stumbled upon one of the many Muggle watchmakers' shops in Coventry. He watched through the window as the man inside looked through a magnifying glass to put in the gears and springs by hand -- something he had never seen before, though he'd seen many wizarding watchmakers at work. Arthur was understandably intrigued, and his fascination with Muggles was born.

At Hogwarts, Arthur was generally well-liked, though he was too good-natured to be able to tell when people sometimes made fun of him. His favourite subject -- by far! -- was Muggle Studies, which he studied exhaustively, almost to the exclusion of everything else. He still managed to scrape acceptable marks in his other subjects, however, mostly due to being naturally bright and having the ability to make up reasonable sounding explanations on the fly. (To this day, Molly has chosen to block out the fact that her husband never made prefect as she did. Arthur was too much of a slacker, though not in the way his future twins sons are. He was simply too distracted by learning new and interesting things about Muggles to keep focussed on his studies for very long.)

As he grew older, Arthur found that all the backbiting associated with wizarding society tended to try his patience. Amongst the worst offenders were his father's distant relatives, the Malfoys of Wiltshire, and their bratty son Lucius was in his opinion the worst of an already bad lot. Arthur's opinions of the so-called upper crust didn't change much once he went to school, as several girls from reasonably wealthy if socially climbing families tried to make his acquaintance -- probably because they had heard rumours of the Weasley fortune, and most certainly not because Arthur was especially dashing. He dated a few of them casually, but he quickly found that they had nothing at all in common. In fact, the only girl he seemed to have anything in common with was a fifth year named Molly Prewett that he met in his seventh year at Hogwarts.

He'd first noticed her when she sat knitting in the Muggle fashion in Gryffindor common room. They soon got to talking and became quick friends. Unfortunately, Molly seemed to find Arthur's interest in Muggles tiresome, culminating one night when she threw her knitting needles to the floor and told him off for it. He was understandably hurt, but he had gleaned enough from his upbringing to keep from showing his emotions as he politely excused himself. Only when he was back in his dormitory did Arthur realise why this had affected him so: throughout the course of their nightly conversations, he'd fallen in love with Molly Prewett. But she was far too young for a serious relationship. And besides, she'd probably never speak to him again.

For the next few weeks, Arthur avoided Molly's eyes if he ever saw her in the corridors or in the common room. He couldn't bear to look at her, knowing she'd see his ears turn pink, which would telegraph exactly how he felt. He only managed to avoid her until his birthday, though, when Molly cornered him in the common room and presented him with a jumper she'd made for him: Gryffindor red with a gold A for Arthur across the front. She also apologised profusely for her behaviour, and despite the fact that he was certain he'd gone red from forehead to neck, Arthur accepted both her apology and the jumper with enthusiasm. Their evening chats resumed, but Arthur never quite managed to work up the nerve to tell Molly how he felt before he left Hogwarts. In fact, Molly was over halfway through her seventh when Arthur finally confessed all in a letter and invited her to Coventry to meet his parents over Easter Break. Much to his surprise and delight, she accepted.

Unfortunately, Reginald and Gabrielle Weasley were less than thrilled with their son's choice. The Prewitts lacked a certain stature in the wizarding community, and they threatened to disown their eldest son if he insisted on pursuing a relationship with "that girl," as they called her, though they said nothing of the sort within Molly's hearing. By the end of the break, however, Arthur was as smitten as any man had ever been. In spite of his parents' warning, he proposed before seeing Molly off on the Hogwarts Express. She promised to at least think about it. This time, despite his best efforts, Arthur couldn't quite hide his hurt and disappointment. No doubt seeing the pain in his eyes at her perceived rejection, Molly relented, telling him to ask her again some time. So he did -- repeatedly -- closing every letter with another proposal, as well as asking every time he saw her in person. Before long, he got into the habit of throwing "Marry me?" into conversation casually, hoping to trip her up and see if she said yes before she had time to think about what she was saying. Finally she did accept, but only after another six weeks had elapsed.

Once they heard about Arthur's engagement, Mr and Mrs Weasley made good on their threat and threw him out with little more than the robes on his back. Never having been on his own before, Arthur was at a loss with regards to what he should do. He ended up on the doorstep of his great uncle, William Charles Weasley, a confirmed bachelor who lived in nearby Wolston. Uncle Charles understood Arthur's plight all too well, as a similar ultimatum was the reason he had never married. "Now I have gold, but it is little comfort in my old age," he told Arthur over a snifter of port. "I'd rather have my Maeve to grow old with."

Uncle Charles congratulated his grand nephew on having the courage to follow his heart and vowed to do everything he could to aid the young lovers in starting their new life together. Arthur was too proud to accept any gold, but he did allow Uncle Charles to help in other ways. Namely, through his connections, Arthur landed a position in the Improper Use of Magic Office in the Ministry of Magic. His Uncle also vouched for him on the mortgage for a nice little cottage that had caught Arthur's eye in Ottery St. Catchpole.

Arthur travelled to Hogsmeade every weekend to visit Molly, who often sneaked out of her dormitory late at night so that they could take moonlit strolls 'round the lake. On one such occasion, the school's caretaker, Apollyon Pringle, caught them and flogged Arthur so severely that he still has the marks. He was convinced that Arthur was attempting to kidnap Molly, despite the fact that he was quite clearly walking his fiancée back to the castle.

Shortly after Molly was out of school, the two were married in the garden of Uncle Charles' Wolston estate. Though Arthur had invited them, his parents refused to attend. His brothers, however, both served as his co-best men (as he couldn't decide between them). They also presented the happy couple with a very special, one-of-a-kind clock as a wedding gift, fresh from the Weasley factory. The clock didn't tell the time, but rather where each of them was at any given moment. It had the standard two hands, but didn't begin running until the two of them kissed, sealing their wedding vows, and an additional hand has appeared with the birth of each of their two children.

Throughout the years, Arthur's salary hasn't increased nearly as quickly as the size of his family. Molly wanted a daughter, however, and he could refuse her nothing. He tries not to fret about their lack of funds, knowing that they'll get by somehow, and trusting in Molly's incredible financial sense. She can stretch a Galleon for a mile, he's fond of saying. With each of their children have come additions to their cottage -- which young Charlie dubbed "the Burrow" because of all the gnomes in the garden, and the name stuck -- with cheaper and cheaper building materials for each successive addition.

When Arthur came home one night and announced that he'd been promoted at work, Molly was undoubtedly pleased -- until he mentioned that he didn't actually receive a pay rise. Nor was he technically promoted. He and a friend of his -- Perkins -- had been moved to a new department: The Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office. The department had been added to deal with Muggle objects that had been illegally charmed or cursed and made their way back into Muggle areas, but things that weren't dire enough to call in Aurors. Molly immediately saw this for what it was -- a slap in the face, and a way to get the Muggle-lovers out from underfoot -- and she told him so, in no uncertain terms. But as the new position made Arthur happy and he wasn't receiving a cut in pay, she decided to drop the subject.

As the war began and attacks on Muggles escalated, Arthur began to work extra hard on his Muggle Protection Act. He was a late-comer to the Order of the Phoenix, not officially joining until He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named's second rise. Whilst on guard one night in the Ministry of Magic, Arthur was attacked by a large snake -- which Harry Potter witnessed from the snake's vantage point. He was thrilled to receive Muggle "stitches" as part of treating the wound (because the snake's venom made the bite not respond to magical treatments). In the battle in 1997, after watching his son Fred be killed, he fought like a man possessed until struck down by Lucius Malfoy's Killing Curse.

Likes: his family; his job; knit wool jumpers; Muggles and Muggle-borns; batteries, plugs, and wires of all sorts and colours; gardening; eckeltricity; escapators; tinkering with Muggle gadgets that he's knicked from down at the Ministry

Disikes: Purebloods who dislike and/or look down on Muggles and Muggle-borns; Lucius Malfoy; writing reports at work; trying to decipher Muggle electrical diagrams for reports at work; gnomes; weeds; when Molly is annoyed with him; being late for dinner

Hobbies: Tinkering with Muggle gadgets that he's knicked from down at the Ministry, gardening, trying to help Molly around the house when he has the time, writing the first draft of a Muggle Protection Act

Romantic history: Arthur dated a few girls whilst at Hogwarts, but they were the wealthy though social climbing types who merely seemed to be attracted by tales of the Weasley fortune. Though any one of them would have pleased his parents immensely, he found that he had little in common with them, so none of those relationships lasted long. He married Molly Weasley, a girl of whom his parents strongly disapproved, and was disowned for doing so. Arthur loves his wife dearly, however, and he wouldn't trade her or their lovely boys for all the gold in Gringotts.

Goals: Arthur wants to complete the first draft of his Muggle Protection Act, and if he can, figure out how to work that raydeo he smuggled out of the office.

Astrology: THE AUDACIOUS ARTIST (Aquarius/Pig) -- There evolves from the blend of Aquarius with Pig a brash quality that borders on lumpishness. Perhaps the Pig's naturally pastoral, countrified side imitates Aquarius' openness. Or maybe the Aquarian subject picks excess sincerity from the Pig and becomes too direct. But whatever the mechanics, this subject comes up both bold and forward. These people are aggressively charismatic. They know how to attract crowds and please them. Love is of the utmost importance to this reckless creature. His whisperings are full of sensuous innuendo and promises of marvelous sexual surprise. But when the lights are low and he gets you into bed, you might be surprised at how unsurprised you are by the follow up...

Status before Dumbledore's Spell: killed by Lucius Malfoy (Avada Kedavra).

DISCLAIMER: This journal is for role-play purposes only. I am not Mark Williams, nor do I own Arthur Weasley -- more's the pity. If I did, I'd be rich, and I'd be writing about him for real, instead of merely playing him.
